Nowadays tuition fee in the colleges and universities becomes more and more expensive and majority of the students do not have opportunity to cover it. Besides, there are many other types of expenses, such as book fee, insurance, accommodation, transportation, etc. because of it many students have to apply for different types of financial aid. There are three main types of student`s financial aid – student loans, student grants and scholarships. The most popular are the grants, because they must not be repaid after graduation, but an application process is quite complicated. There are two main types of student`s grants: federal and private grants. Federal grants are provided by the government and usually have particular aims and requirements for the candidates.
In general there are 26 federal agencies in the United States which provide student`s grants programs. These agencies provide about 1000 grants every year for different categories of students depending on different criteria. There are such agencies, as education organizations, government organizations, Non-Profit organizations and public housing organizations.
Each organization can offer grants for students if it meets the requirements and guidelines of the US government. Private grants can also be given in the case if they fulfill all requirements and suit the procedure of the application process.
Usually the federal grants provide limited sum of money for the applicants and it is not enough to cover all educational expenses. But the students can apply for other types of student financial aid and combine the funds from different sources. Usually federal student grants are given to those students who have low level of family income and can prove it. Besides, the candidates must have US citizenship.
Every year US government gives huge sum of money for the student grants and the students have to use advantages of this opportunity and apply for the Grant Programs.
